Boynton Beach is a coastal city in southeastern Florida, located in Palm Beach County between West Palm Beach and Delray Beach. The community stretches from the Atlantic Ocean inland along the Intracoastal Waterway, with residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, parks, and waterfront areas spread across a largely flat coastal landscape. Its municipal beach provides direct access to the Atlantic, while the Boynton Harbor Marina supports boating and other activities on the water. The city combines a year-round residential community with the recreation and dining associated with South Florida’s coast.

Boynton Beach’s history is closely connected to agriculture, transportation, and the development of Florida’s Atlantic coast. Major Nathan Boynton established the community, and the town later grew around the Florida East Coast Railway and agricultural industries. The city also has important African American history, including the struggle for equal access to municipal beaches and other public facilities. The historic Woman’s Club, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the city’s notable heritage landmarks. Local archives and oral-history collections preserve stories from residents who helped shape Boynton Beach.

The city’s natural attractions range from Atlantic beaches to freshwater wetlands. Oceanfront Park provides a broad sandy beach with designated areas for surfing and skimboarding, while the Boynton Harbor Marina offers access to the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby ocean waters. Inland, Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands protects a large constructed wetland with a 1.5-mile elevated boardwalk, where visitors can observe wading birds, turtles, fish, and other wetland wildlife. The city also maintains numerous parks and recreational facilities, giving residents and visitors access to walking, boating, fishing, sports, and outdoor programs.

Boynton Beach has a diverse food scene shaped by its coastal location and multicultural population. Seafood is prominent, with local restaurants serving fish, shrimp, crab, oysters, and other dishes associated with South Florida. Waterfront dining along the Intracoastal adds another connection to the city’s maritime setting, while inland neighborhoods offer Caribbean, Latin American, Italian, Asian, and other cuisines. A distinctive feature of Boynton Beach is its close relationship with both ocean and wetlands: within a relatively short drive, visitors can move from an Atlantic beach to the elevated boardwalk at Green Cay, experiencing two very different coastal environments.
