Sidemen is a rural valley in eastern Bali, surrounded by rice fields, wooded hills, small villages, and views toward Mount Agung. Located in Karangasem Regency, the area is known for its agricultural landscape and traditional village setting rather than a large urban center. Narrow roads and walking paths pass through cultivated fields, irrigation channels, gardens, and settlements, providing a close view of everyday life in Bali's countryside. The valley's combination of fertile farmland and mountain scenery has made Sidemen an important destination for experiencing a quieter side of the island.

Balinese Hindu traditions remain closely woven into daily life in Sidemen, with temples, shrines, ceremonies, and offerings visible throughout the villages. Local communities continue to maintain the subak irrigation system, in which farmers cooperate to manage water for rice cultivation and coordinate agricultural activities. Handicrafts are also part of the area's identity, particularly traditional songket weaving and the production of textiles using local techniques. Village temples and family compounds reflect Balinese architectural traditions, while community ceremonies provide an opportunity to observe customs that remain part of ordinary life.

The landscape around Sidemen is shaped by terraced rice fields, coconut palms, tropical vegetation, streams, and forested slopes. Walking routes lead through villages and farmland, while viewpoints across the valley offer clear perspectives toward Mount Agung when weather conditions allow. The nearby Telaga Waja River is used for rafting and passes through a landscape of vegetation, farmland, and river valleys. Sidemen also provides access to parts of eastern Bali, including Klungkung and the temples and coastal areas of Karangasem. The area is particularly suited to exploring Bali's agricultural landscapes on foot.

Food in Sidemen reflects the wider cuisine of Bali, with dishes such as nasi campur, lawar, satay lilit, and babi guling available in local eateries and restaurants. Rice remains central to the agricultural landscape, and local markets provide vegetables, fruit, spices, and other ingredients used in Balinese cooking. Visitors may also encounter traditional herbal drinks and snacks prepared from locally available plants and crops. A distinctive feature of Sidemen is the close connection between agriculture, water management, religious practice, and village life, with the rice fields serving both practical and cultural roles within the community.
