Gujarat is a large state in western India, stretching from the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Kutch to the dry landscapes of the Rann and the forested hills of the southeast. Its varied geography includes salt marshes, mangroves, grasslands, deciduous forests, wetlands, beaches, and a long coastline. Major cities such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot provide urban centers alongside historic towns, pilgrimage sites, wildlife reserves, and rural communities. The state is particularly known for its combination of ancient archaeological sites, traditional crafts, religious architecture, and distinctive regional cuisine.

Gujarat has a strong cultural identity shaped by Hindu, Jain, Muslim, and other communities, as well as its long history of trade across the Arabian Sea. Ahmedabad is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage City, while the state contains other UNESCO sites including Rani-ki-Vav at Patan, Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, and Dholavira. Jain pilgrimage centers such as Palitana and Girnar are important religious destinations, while Mahatma Gandhi’s birthplace at Porbandar and Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad are closely associated with his life and work. Gujarati traditions are also expressed through embroidery, textiles, pottery, wood carving, and folk music and dance.

Gujarat offers a wide range of landscapes and wildlife habitats. The Great Rann of Kutch forms a vast seasonal salt marsh, turning into an extensive white salt desert during the dry season, while the Little Rann of Kutch protects the Indian wild ass and other desert-adapted animals. Gir National Park is the principal habitat of the Asiatic lion in India, and the state's wetlands and coastal areas support large numbers of resident and migratory birds. Other notable places include the Sun Temple at Modhera, the Statue of Unity near the Narmada River, the historic city of Bhuj, and the mangrove-lined coast around the Gulf of Kutch.

Food in Gujarat is predominantly vegetarian and is known for combining sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors within the same meal. Dhokla, thepla, khandvi, fafda, undhiyu, and Gujarati kadhi are among the dishes associated with the state, while farsan refers to a broad range of savory snacks commonly served as part of Gujarati meals. Kutch is particularly noted for its textile traditions, including intricate embroidery, mirror work, bandhani tie-dye, and Rogan painting. Gujarat is also known for Navratri celebrations and garba dancing, while the annual Rann Utsav highlights the crafts, music, food, and traditions of the Kutch region.
