Town walls encapsulate this city, making for fantastic viewpoints all around. Visitors can also walk across the Pont de les Peixateries Velles bridge, designed by Gustave Eiffel. When leaving, it is a must to find El Cul de la Lleona, a lioness statue, and kiss her bottom. Tradition dictates that doing so will ensure a return trip in your future!

Girona Cathedral

Girona Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Girona, stands at the highest point of Girona’s historic old town and is recognized for its unusually broad Gothic nave, one of the widest of its kind. The cathedral combines architectural elements from Romanesque, Gothic, and later periods, reflecting the long development of the building. Its interior contains the Romanesque Tapestry of Creation, a richly detailed embroidered work depicting scenes from the biblical story of creation, while the cathedral treasury preserves religious art and manuscripts. The long Baroque staircase leading to the entrance is another prominent feature of Girona’s historic center.
